Look, I get what you're saying, but I'm tired of being the victim, being reminded that I'm the victim, that I'm weak, that I can't survive the barbs Mr. Leno throws. I'm especially tired of it, because I'm not a victim or weak or unable to deal with Jay. In fact, I'm pretty certain that I could take Jay if it ever got down to fisticuffs. It wouldn't be a queer-bashing, it'd be a queer bashing, you get me?

Besides, rather than listing our dead and beaten, wouldn't we be better off saying stuff like, "Fuck you, you straight asswipe!" Mr. Whitty, you could even say, "Fuck you, you straight asswipe! I have a Tony!" I know that gay people are still getting beaten and killed, but it's not because gayness is inherently weak. It's because hatred no matter who it's directed toward is inherently harmful.

Think about hate crime laws. Do they exist to protect the weak? Are they then, in fact, "special rights" (favorite words of our arch-enemies the religious conservatives) for those few people who cannot defend themselves? Or do hate crime laws exist to punish the bigoted? Are they the consensus or a larger society, of many people who have agreed that hatred and bigotry deserve greater degrees of punishment? Perhaps this is only a shift in semantics, but I'd rather the semantics shifted toward empowering me than they assumed I was weak and needed shelter.

So, Mr. Whitty, the next time you pick up that pen, remind those asswipes about how far we've come. Let them know they're stuck in the past telling tired old jokes that have as much relevance as Betamax. And rather than shoving our weak and dying onto a pedestal for everyone to gawk at, why don't you stand on that pedestal instead and wave your Tony around. And wear that coat in the picture above, that coat is awesome.

And, above all, remember that Jay sucks.
