I agree-except that's not German, it's Dutch. So you should be asking about how awesome it would be if Americans were only as progressive as people in the Netherlands. Keep up the good work, Canada loves your blog!

And the boy can sing! My fave is the part that says sometimes if they have to they can be my mother.
I don't even think Americans can televise children speaking/singing about living in a single-parent home, much less in a home with two fathers. Inclusivity is not a hallmark of most Americans' concept of family. How do we change that if we're supposedly a minority and depend on the majority for change? How do you open up people's consciousness? Very gently, for starters, but ultimately how?
Alex, I think it would take at least a generation or two to really change things. The problem, as we know, is intolerance. But, where does the intolerance come from?
Each generation is forced to face the intolerance of some group or another but only able to see it narrowly applied to just one group. I'm still baffled over how the arguments for segregation in the USA, against inter-racial marriage, and against gay civil rights and gay marriage (i.e. marriage equality) have been virtually identical and we seem to not have learned that they are faulty and violate our constitituion.

Speaking of faulty arguments...
Fredrick Douglass details the hyppocritical way in which the bible was used to justify slavery. This of course is well documented elsewhere, but to read his words on the matter is chilling in light of 20th (and 21st) Century bigotry.
Great video. I like a similar video by Sigur Ros.
The real problem with "Acceptance" of ANY minority in the US (or anywhere for that matter) is IGNORANCE. If you are ignorant of something you usually fear it. And FEAR then makes the ignorant reject and avoid what it is they fear. Sad. But true.
Awesome video! It's great to see representations/celebrations of non-hegemonic families on a kids show!
Contrast this to the ridiculous outcry last year about the lesbian couple on PBS. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6869976/ A long way to go.
I think this video is funny!!! And I would die if it was in America I don't agree with having 2 fathers. God made a woman and a man to have children.

Nancy,
I don't think you get it. Aparently this boy's "woman and a man" parents are not able to take care of him... So God created Deidrik and Bas to take care of him. It's perfectly acceptable and commendable in and of itself.

How brave and heart felt. What compassion and courage this young man has shown. It is a wonderful song and how lucky he is to have two adults who care for him. This is why the people of the Netherlands have always been considered to be a truly excepting and tolerant nation. What a wonderful place to raise your children. A place where kids feel they can open up and talk about such things.
When we are gone, no one will care what car we drove, or how big our house was, or the amount of money we had in our banks. All that will matter is whether someone will remember us with love. At 92 it has taken me all my life to understand that to be truth.

As one of two gay parents of a ten year old adopted boy, I enjoyed listening to this song....it's a little too perfect to be real, and alas, it is...the singer is an actor with a two parents, a man and a woman...the point that this kind of thing would never fly on US TV is still valid....if my son had a better voice, he'd probably do it as he's already phone banked for tne No on 8 campaign....the good news is that our real 10 year old is accepted by his friends and the two dad thing is a non issue in this Southern California city.....

I'd attribute the lack of acceptance to ignorance, yes, but much more so to psyco-emotional immaturity. And then there's pure egotism: "I'm normal, they're not!"
Pathetic.
