UAFA reintroduction

Thanks to Congressman Nadler and Senator Leahy for bringing the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) back to the Congress on Tuesday, May 8, 2007. The reintroduction of the Act could bring all same-sex couples a step closer to equal immigration rights, so citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their same-sex partners for immigration purposes.

Please tell your Congresspersons and Senators to support this important Act.

Currently, permanent residents and citizens of the United States CANNOT sponsor their same-sex partners to obtain residency in the country, thus many bi-national couples face seperation and forced migration in order to stay together. They simply do not have the right to live with their loved ones in the country.

16 countries currently allow their residents to sponsor same-sex permanent partners for immigration, they are: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Israel, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
