Get your tranny-fierceness on at Dr. Jillian T. Weiss's new Diversity Seminar "Transgender Issues in the Workplace." Weiss says: "This one-day seminar is for human resources professionals, lawyers, and transgender individuals to address transgender issues in the workplace. This issue is at the leading edge of workplace diversity, with transgender discrimination prohibited in more than 20 states and over 100 cities." The event takes place on Friday, November 14, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in New York City. Weiss has a J.D. and a Ph.D. in Law, Policy & Society and is currently Associate Professor of Law and Society at Ramapo College of New Jersey. She also uses the word "best" at the end of her emails. For the little ones (and for those on the opposite coast), Gender Spectrum has announced its second annual conference, the Gender Spectrum Family conference, for gender variant and transgender children, their families, loved ones, and medical and mental health providers at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle, Washington, Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31, 2008. The conference will be preceded by a one-day seminar for professionals working in the mental health, medical and educational fields the day before. Workshops at the conference will be led by gender specialist and author Stephanie Brill, legal director at the NCLR Shannon Minter, Beth Reis from Seattle's Safe Schools Coalition, and psychotherapists Michele Angello and Diane Ehrensaft. I'm glad that finally people are starting to talk about the importance of gender issues, the non-binary world we live in, and educating individuals to better understand others. Gender is such a threatening topic to so many...I'm not really sure why...but if you ever just need a good laugh, feel free to check out http://www.grrlplanet.com
