2) I wish people would recognize that abstaining from politics is not a way of protesting unacceptable systems; it's a way of perpetuating them. We are where we are in this country because of apathy. George W.'s 50.8% "mandate" was based on a 60.7% turnout of eligible voters. That means our current President only won with the votes of 30.8% of registered voters. What if the other 39.3% had voted? Let's all work together to figure out what could happen by all heading to the polls in the midterm elections this fall. Once those pols realize we care, they're going to have to start doing what we say, and wouldn't that be an amazing thing? Most people support civil unions for gay and lesbian couples and stronger hate crime laws - too bad most people don't vote. 3) I wish telenovela hottie Juan Soler would star in a porno based on Brokeback Mountain. Nothing more to say on that one except: YUM!

sigh If one more person says "But I just want to be "normal"" to me I'm going to vomit.
I totally understand the impulse to want to be normal. Everyone wants to connect. Everyone wants to be able to go to a party where they'll get all the jokes and feel all the love.
I just don't think we should step down (or back or off) to meet crappy norms that don't work anymore. Those norms should catch up (or forward or on) to us, by gum!
Absolutely agree! Have been thinking the same all week (Pride is around the corner. Yes, as far away from June 28th as weather-permitting. Thank you, milk toast, depoliticising gays (and queers!)

1) I wish queer people would be queer again. I look back on my posts since I started contributing to Big Queer and have noticed a theme: I am disappointed by the milk toast, far too civilized, and not at all radical tactics employed by the Gay Rights Movement of the '00's. It wasn't that long ago that queer was punk, that queers were gender warriors, and queerness was well...queer. We fought for rights that didn't alienate others, we were proud of our powerful multi-racial, economically diverse front, our art, film and culture said and did things only we could say and do, and we tried Fighting for Equality instead of Buying for Equality. Come on folks, the Gay Rights Movement needs to cut some new teeth! I mean, the Christian right blurts out more punk ass bitch shit than we do these days, and that's just wrong.
